Serial Cat Killer On The Loose In Houston, Texas

If you live in Houston, Texas, in the Timbergrove or Lazybrook neighborhoods near the Heights, you need to watch your cats like a hawk, and don’t let them out at night! A serial cat killer has killed over 25 cats in the area since 2008, with a dozen of them being killed this year alone. Police and the victims’ owners believe that it is a human killing the cats, and not another animal. It is also believed that the killer is using a machete to mutilate and kill the cats. This is an extremely sick and depraved individual.

Chris and Kimberly Elliott woke up Friday morning and were horrified to find their beloved cat, Mo, cut into two pieces in their front yard. Here is their story, plus more about the killings.

Warning! The beginning of this video is an animation, and you don’t actually see the murder in detail, but it is hinted at, and you may find it disturbing.

Serial killers of humans often start their “careers” by killing animals. I’m certainly no criminal profiler, but it seems to me that they usually do that in private. Also, nearly half the cats have been killed this year, with the other half killed over a five-to-six year period. He (or she) is escalating. So what does that say about this killer? It’s scary to think about.

Two interesting comments on the web:

Anyone with cats in the area needs to set up a night vision security camera.

I agree. Security cameras are inexpensive nowadays, and easy to set up. But I wouldn’t just set one up and go to bed with my cat outside. I would sit in the dark, by the window…no, on second thought, I wouldn’t even let my cat be outside at night. They wouldn’t necessarily stay within your range of vision. But if lots of people in these two neighborhoods would set up security cams, and maybe even point some towards their neighbor’s houses, maybe one of them might capture something.

How did he catch the cats in the first place? They are fast and slippery.

Lol! I don’t know about slippery, but we get what he means. Of course, they would be “slippery” to someone who is trying to hold them with a gentle touch, but I doubt that this person is being gentle. The killer must be enticing the cats to come to him (or her) in some way, either with food, or with kind words and noises. Here, kitty, kitty, kitty. Makes me sick to think about it.

 Rewards Are Being Offered

Since the serial cat killer has made the news, reward money has been pouring in. Crime Stoppers is offering $9690, The Oak Forest Veterinary Clinic has donated $2500 and Kimberly Elliott’s dad has pitched in $2000 to catch the killer.

The total amount has reached almost $25,000 when you include the anonymous donation made by a man whose cat became a victim of the killer in September.

He posted an ad on Craigslist that read in part “You give me the info, the guy gets arrested and goes to jail. You’re $10,000 richer. Someone knows who this psychopath is. And, to the monster who committed this abomination: What goes around comes around.”

You can keep up-to-date on what is happening in this case at the Heights Justice Demanded Facebook Page.

Even if you don’t live in these neighborhoods, please share this info, so that people who do live in the neighborhoods, and maybe don’t have cats, can find out about it, and can be on the lookout for this person. Let’s do what we can to help stop this from happening again. Jennifer Estopinal, who has been working with police for a year says:

“I’m amazed at how many people still have no clue what’s going on.”

If you know anything about this case, please call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS (8477) or the Houston Police at (713) 308-3100

Serious question…if this is known issue why aren’t folks keeping their pets indoors? I get that some have outdoor cats and many cats like to go outside but at this point I wouldn’t take a chance.

And whomever is doing this needs a baseball bat upside the back of the head. This is just horrible.

    Look for animal cages.
They.can be put out at night and pick up early morning. When you find a.cage then stake it out and you will catch the person doing this.
    Very simplex
Get all the neighbors looking around where they live for these cages. It only takes one cage to do all this damage.
