This is the sweetest story! Kate Collins’ son had been feeding a stray, a hungry little cat that had been hanging around his house in the Indianapolis area. He called her Mabel. Mabel was too shy to come in the house, and soon she disappeared – for a whole month. He had been planning to take her to the vet and hopefully get her adopted, but now she was gone.
About a month later, she showed up again, hungry, and looking differently somehow. This time, she cautiously came in the house, ate a lot, looked around a bit, and then left again. She did this for about a week, and then disappeared again – this time for two months.
Now this is where Mabel will start to pull at your heartstrings:
“Two months later I heard a loud cry from outside my window. It was six in the morning during a bad thunderstorm. I had decided to sleep with the windows open that night to hear the storm come in. When I heard the crying again I quickly dressed and went to the living room. I opened my sliding glass door and saw Mabel, soaking wet, meowing her heart out.”
Poor Mabel, out there in the pouring rain! She must have been scared to death of the thunder and lightning. But there was more to it than that:
“Then behind her I saw the reason why. There was a very small kitten following her. She led the shivering kitten to my door and disappeared back into the storm. Thirty minutes later she came back, with another kitten. Every thirty minutes Mabel went back into the storm, until, one by one, she had led eight little four-week-old kittens to my door.”
Talk about a mother’s love! Mabel had trekked back-and-forth through the raging storm to get her kittens to safety. If it took 30 minutes to get each one, that means she spent 4 hours in that storm! She brought them to the only person she knew she could trust.
(These are Mabel’s kittens, Cole, Quinn, and Ellie! Click to them see full-sized)
“In that moment when I stepped outside and I looked into that cat’s eyes, there was an exchange of information. She had successfully communicated to me that she needed help. And somehow, over the weeks and months that I had cared for her, she had come to know that I would. Mabel had struggled for hours to bring her kittens to safety, and I owed it to her to make sure they end up in a good loving home.”

The kittens have all been named, taken to the vet, are litter trained, and are ready for adoption. Kate Collins also wants to thank her heroic son, who has taken the kittens into his home and is taking such good care of them.
“My son is determined not to turn them over to a shelter but instead find homes for them and their brave little mother.”
Bless your hearts! We think you and your son are both wonderful people, and we’re so glad that Mabel had a place to take her kittens!

If you live in the Indianapolis area, and are interested in adopting the mama cat Mabel, or any of her kittens, you can contact Kate here. Tell her we sent you! Also, the top image, the cat in the rain, is NOT Mabel. We don’t have a picture of her, but she is a calico kitty. The pictures of the kittens, however, are the real deal!
Happy ending!!! Just heard from Jason and Kate. Jason says homes have been found for all of the kittens, and he is keeping Mabel!
I am happy to announce that all eight kittens have found wonderful, loving homes. We have decided to adopt Mabel ourselves, along with three of her kittens. Thank you so much for sharing this story! It brings me to tears and I lived it! : )
Imagine 8 kittens, their mom, and my son’s own rescued cat in a one bedroom apartment! But he was too kind-hearted to shut his door that stormy morning. I’m so proud of him.
You have every reason to be proud of him, Kate. You raised a wonderful, kind-hearted son! And Jason, it brings us to tears that it brings you to tears! But thank you both for letting us know the end of this heart-warming story. We couldn’t be happier that Mabel gets to stay with the person she trusted most in this world. We wish you, Mabel, and the kittens all the best!
happy this cat was fed and safe.
you and your son are angels!! bless you!!
Amazing! Mabel is beautifull and the kittens sweet

Chloe Condon … Meow
We have the same situation in our trailer park too and with winter coming soon, we are worried and she will eat food we put out for her, but she will not let us close to her. Put lined totes out in case they need shelter….
What a wonderful story. God bless people like you for having a caring heart.
So heartwarming. Bless her heart and bless the kind man who took Mabel and her babies in. Hope they will all find good forever homes.
My lst cat was brought to my front porch by his momma because he was sick and we saved him. His momma visits here every day to eat breakfast and dinner. Soo sweet. Tried catching her to get her spayed but she is way to smart. We have to keep trying her babies all die which makes me sad. It would be better if she could just be spayed.
A mothers love! ❤️
if i lived closer i would adopt in a heartbeat
Awesome Story…animals know who they can trust!
such a good mommy
This is indeed a true story, a Momma cat will undergo great danger to herself to assist her kittens. Hope all will be adopted as they are all adorable. Mabel is a great name for the Momma of this tribe. Cheers to a very humane person for his caring.
Cats are good mothers
Brave little Mommy.
Thanks to the son and the Mama cat knew who cared…There was a cat, who came to my deck and each time, I stepped outside she scattered. finally winter time came, and I bought a bag of cat food and had an old TV cabinet with a glass front. I put a pillow in it. She at the food and slept in the cabinet. I called her Shadow because that is mostly what I saw. finally one day, she decided I was okay, she came into the house and inspected every room. She fell in love with my husband who was blind. She would sit on his shoulder and have her face on his. We took her the vet, our neighbor and said she had been fixed and at one time was taken care of. I have had her fourteen years and lives with my daughter, since I can’t have her in my apartment. now.
Dogs trust easily, but you truly have to earn a cats. They are great moms. She is so pretty…
Love this story!

Bless her sweet precious heart <3
Mabel is a great Mom better than some human Mom’s!!!!!!
that is one of the most touching stories i have read in a long time mol
All the babies are so beautiful. God bless your son for saving all these babies and their Mama from the storm and for trying to find them homes rather than taking them to a shelter.
Cats are awesome
These kittens weren’t in the shelter that lost all their cats were they? Does anyone know?
I heard that there was a shelter in Indy that had to PTS all their cats. Please someone tell me these beautiful babies were not in that shelter!
Kate Collins: Thank you for raising such a wonderful young man and thank you for helping him care for these babies and their Mamma.

That’s a sweet story, Kay! You’re a good person.
Lori Choman no, these babies were not in a shelter. Kate’s son takes care of them in his home. But I have heard about that shelter – 20 cats pts so far, 80 more scheduled. So sad. But a few survived, they were taken in by other shelters and put in isolation to be watched for symptoms.
Barbara this SPCA has some info on how to trap, maybe it will help: https://caspca.org/communityferal-cats/trapping-community-cats-for-spayneuter-surgery/ And bless you for caring about those kitties 🙂
Kittens Whiskers… also on fb,, Alley Cats has some wonderful ideas… along with housing for winter for the ferals… I have done feral rescue for over 14 yrs now… we fought to have the rights here in Nebraska to set up colonies for these lovelies at a low cost of owning a 2yr permit … we work closely with our local shelter and all cats are spayed/neutered for free and ear tip to prevent them from being pts … wish I was closer,, those babies are so cute…all 3 of mine were once feral..now indoor cats and happy.. Blessed be to rescuers and animal lovers
cats are the best mammals….period
God bless her and her kittens
What a sweet mama cat!
The things we do to keep our kittens safe and protected; no matter which storm we may find ourselves in.
I agree some animals are better parents than some people!
cats became pets after a mama cat in ancient Egypt brought her starving kittens to the grain bins to catch mice thank goodness they still do. my little dog caught a mouse the other night did not want to eat it but the kitties were willing snoopy pulverized the little devil. and when he went out to pee I think ginger ate his mouse he looked and looked and she was licking her chops quite a little dog good boy
He is a son any mother would be proud to have – what a wonderful thing he did and cats know….they just know <3
Not even mother nature can stand up to a mama’s love!
Such a sweet story of a Mother’s love for her babies.
11 years ago, I noticed a female cat hanging around my condo. She would come and go, disappear for awhile and then come back. I thought maybe she belonged to a neighbor. One day my son looked out onto the patio and started laughing. When I looked to see what he was enjoying, there was mama cat with 4 tiny kittens! The kittens were frolicking in the sun, and I realized that she had given birth in a tiny hidey hole under my patio! I began leaving out food for them and soon mama cat disappeared for good. The kittens stayed. I made a house for them for the winter and brought them all inside when it was really cold. The next spring I was making plans to take all of them to get fixed when 2 of them disappeared. Two left….Bubba and Milo. Bubba was a male brown tabby, Milo a female long haired black cat with a white spot on her chest (my niece named her when we thought she was a he). Got them both their shots and got them fixed. They were indoor/outdoor cats (I had a full house of cats at the time) and were thriving. One day Bubba didn’t come for breakfast. But little Milo, who stayed pretty much close to home, stayed. Ultimately, and to make a long story short, something bit her on her back one night and I soon discovered the bit when it abscessed. Back to the vet, treatment and recovery, and Milo was now an indoor baby. 11 years later and she is still with me…..
I’ve had that happen. Was feeding a stray and few weeks later, she moved her babies into my garage! I felt kinda happy she picked me. I took care of that little colony until they all had homes.
Such a good mom
What a great mom…God bless her, her kittens, and those helping her!!!
Many years ago, someone found a mama cat and several kittens nested in leaves in a window well at our church. Mama was in bad shape from lack of food, but she and the kittens were taken in and cared for. The babies were all adopted by church members, but mama, since named Stormy, became the Church Cat! Free to roam as she pleased, Stormy would sometimes attend Sunday services, and she was the mascot of the church’s school!
My sister had a dog that rescued 3 kittens in a storm.
AWWWWWWW so glad she found safety for her babes
What a wonderful story! Such a good person you are…..and good momma kitty too.
nice little kitty

I irritated my neighbors while living in a small rural town by feeding a raccoon every evening one summer. I took some guff then one day the c**n disappeared. I thought it was a pretty messed up situation until over a year later, when I was sitting out on the step and these little c**n cubs walked up to near where I was. I called for my wife to come look and when I did here came momma c**n out of the ditch to formally introduce her babies.
They are very good mothers from what I have seen…
Wonderful tale 🙂
Whats the story at the end here? Some lady posted under the link they were taken to that bad shelter after all.

Shows what a mother’s love for her kitties will do!
This is a wow story for both the cat kittens and her rescuer <3
Jon Ernst I’m mad we didn’t keep the cat…those kittens would have acted like dogs….. And I could of had one at Brentons
I shouldn’t read stories like this after I put on mascara.
Yes how true this is.
Yup…that’s how much mama cat loves her kittens.
I hope they’ll find a loving home. I have 10 of my own all stray and abandoned. I adore and love all my cats.
some people restore a little of my faith that there still exists AWESOME people in this world ^..^<
Go Mama Go ! <3 😀
LOVE the story. It warms my heart and reminds me of a young cat that I had fed, and cleaned a wound in the summer. The owner’s mother would not let this cat into the house in the winter (another cat could though). One bitter cold, below zero temp in MN this same cat came to the door. Scratching, making noises. My roommate looked out and saw nothing. Again the noise—he looked again and saw a cat. He called me downstairs asking if I “knew” this cat. I DID! He was freezing, his paws frozen, ice on his fur. I had three cats that did not like him in the house, so I put him on the porch, put in a heater, got out a sleeping bag, and warm blanket, warm food, dry food, and water. Then I sat and cuddled with him for a long time. The next day I took him to a shelter in a different, larger town where I was from. I didn’t want any chance of the previous owner getting him back. The animals just know—he knew I would protect him, just like Mabel knew this guy would take her and her babies in. He is a hero and has a warm, kind heart. KUDOS to him!!!
Kudos to you, too, Karen! I’m so glad you took that kitty in, and got him away from those people!
They are so cute. I love little Casper!

Ohhhh…….what a great story with a happy ending. TY for caring.
Beautiful Story, I LOVE a Happy Ending ❤
A very similar thing happened to me about 30 years ago. A stray suddenly jumped up and clung to my window screen and meowed very loudly. I let her in and made her feel at home for weeks, letting her outside during the day but in at night. I named her “Squeaky” because her “meow” was very squeaky — not the same sound I had heard on the first night’s encounter. Then one day she disappeared. I thought she was gone forever — that she had moved on to greener pastures. Then, on evening, during a torrential downpour, there she was — suddenly clinging to my window screen again and meowing very loudly. I let her in, toweled her off, made her warm and fed her. I thought she had come back forever. The next day, she disappeared again however. But over the next two days she reappeared — each time bringing a new born kitten with her. How far she traveled to bring them to me, I’ll never know. She brought 6 in all. Squeaky stayed with me, inside during the night but outside during the day, for a few more months. I raised the kittens and found good homes for them after they were weaned and running about. Once the last kitten was taken for adoption, Squeaky left and never returned. I so wonder what happened to her.

Wonderful story. I’ve helped a few ferals and they know who they trust. Hoping they all fine great homes including Mabel.
We saved this cat, Mamma Mia, 10 years ago. She was living in a garbage dump near a bar. She had kittens and a dog killed three, but she moved two under a board near where we were feeding the strays there. We were able to trap her by putting the kittens and tuna in a carrier. We found homes for the kittens and Mamma Mia has lots of health issues, but is happy along with five other rescues that live here.
Yes, I know that conversation with the eyes. Cats are quite good at communicating through their eyes.
great story! A mother’s love knows NO bounds.
These kid has a humble heart…God Bless him and Mama cat and her babies
Beautiful story of a cats love for her kittens

I have 3 rescued cats and love them to death, even my husband who never liked cats 42 yrs ago when we married now loves all the kitties I rescue (and he’s become a softie as well- one of our cats is 4 and he rescued her). If I were in Indianapolis I’d sure take Mabel or any of the kittens. I pray you find them all a very loving home.

Takes a good mother to raise such as good and compassionate son so kudos to you both. Lovely to read this vs. stories of kids gone wrong who torture animals which sadly fills too many headlines. God bless you for doing this. I’ve had a similar experience with a feral cat. Cats are special too.
Beautiful story of a good mother raising a compassionate son who in turn helps a brave mother cat and her kittens. Love this vs. so many stories of kids gone wrong who torture animals.

This is how I came to have Boomerang (RIP) in 1990.. in a terrible cold thunderstorm his Mom brought him and his sister to me.. I had my feral baby for 17 years.. <3
And people say animals have no souls. This is a lesson the responsibility that every human could learn from.
Oh awe that just brought me to tears! What a wonderful mommy and person for being the one she could trust! Praying for all!!
i love that about them!
Cats are great Moms till they get them grown and then they let go.
I DO hope all the kittens and Mabel are now neutered, so no more kittens result!
I DO hope they ALL got fixed, so the problem ends there!
Oh my goodness reminds me of a mama cat I had fed for a couple of years. She would never let me get near her. I knew she had a litter of kittens somewhere close & it started snowing really bad that night. I told her to go get her babies & bring them back. She was an all white kitty so she disappeared out in the snow. About 20 minutes later I seen her heading back with 3 little all white bundles of fur hopping though the snow. They all came in that night & never left. Little did I know she was pregnant at that time so we had more little kitties that winter. It took along time before she really trusted me to even touch her, but she eventually came around. I found good homes for some of the kittens & still have the rest. Sadly I lost her a few years ago, but I’ll never forget that night or her motherly love to protect her babies.
I love cats , we have 12
I put it on my time line and how wonderful to hear about this caring young man who took care of God’s creature God Bless.
Wonderful, loving story.
Yes you can have them if the are therapeutic! I’m sure your husband must miss that wonderful bond terribly! Please try and get approval from the apartment! Such a sweet sweet story. 🙂
Aww happy story
She looks like my nana
“I DO hope all the kittens and Mabel are now neutered, so no more kittens result!”
Aww poor homeless kitties it seems people still don’t understand spay and neuter
This is an amazing story. We are animal lovers as well. So happy this story had a happy ending.
We had a very small cat show up under our carport severely scarred and near starved to death, it took months to get her to trust me enough to pet or pick her up but she finally let me tend to her wounds a little. She was pregnant by then and we were living on Guam with a typhoon coming in that we thought might hit the island. I went out and found her and not long after she nearly gave birth on my lap to four adorable little boys who all quickly got adopted. We were at our two pet limit so Bella went to live with my mom when we moved back stateside. Perfect timing since she arrived just one week before my mom’s elderly cat passed away. My mom is a stroke survivor of 19 yrs and Bella has become a wonderful sympathy pet for her. She is missing some teeth and has scars, but she is the most lovable cat imaginable and only 6.5 lbs so easy for my mom who has right side paralysis to pick up. Purrs like crazy too, her and the kittens were worth every bit of the near 2k it cost for vet and travel expenses. All my kitties are strays and rescues, they appreciate the value of being loved more deeply.
And they call them animals.
such a good momma
Moms are awesome
that young man is an awesome guardian angel for Mable and her babies and thankfully she knew she could trust them to care for her precious babies…good luck with getting them adopted…
Awwww. .she will always have a special place in your heart.
I love happy endings!
Thanks to your son for showing compassion to Mabel. Without her trusting him, who knows what would have happened to Mabel and her kittens. I hope Mom and her babies all are taken care of and are in god homes! Thanks to you and your son for caring for all the cats.

so wonderful, thank you! Please update us about their adoptions!
How sweet, this reminds me of a feral I had been feeding for over a year, she recently had kittens and had started bringing them to my house, I knew I was moving and was worrying about what would happen to her, the year before I was able to catch her kittens and take them to our shelter so they would be able to find homes. Unfortunately, this year I was close to moving and they were too young, suddenly Cali stopped coming around, for over two weeks there was no sign of her, though I did spot her kittens at another house down the alley from my old home. I can’t say what happened to Cali, maybe she moved on, I’m hoping she didn’t meet a worse fate, she too was a tiny little calico.
I hope mama and her babies get a wonderful loving home and get treated just as good as she treated her baby
That shows A Mothers Love!
Wonderful!!! Bless her and prayers!!!!
(Y) (Y) up for Kate’s son. 3 of my 4 kitties are rescues. Bitty is going to be 14 next year, my how time flies. When we first got her she was roughly the size of a Beany Baby and would ride around on my shoulder. She now weighs around 15 pounds, yes she is healthy, and still likes to ride on my shoulder.
So happy, good momma

You seem to be her home why can’t she stay the one place she trust? Can you not keep her?
We had a stray Mom let me feed some that had kittens next door. Rain started pouring & I looked out to see her bringing one over the fence to our house. I ran for Mom, she worked till she got them all to our house. We fixed her up in a cardboard box on the porch. Mom ruined my childhood cause she didn’t let creatures in the house.
Lovely story! Wish I could help. Here are my rescue kitty & cat! Both was less then 4 weeks! The best ever!!!
Bless you for taking care of mama Mabel & her little ones. Cats know who’ll be good to them.
Is mama ok too dhes a good mama
And you snd your son are
I hate spell check
You and your son sre heros in my book
So many homeless kitties. I brought one inside 4 years ago. Feral cats need extra attention. Don’t think that they naturally take to you because you feed them. Sometimes they will never let people hold them.
This same thing happened to me. I was feeding a ferel for like 2 yrs tried to trap her and get her fixed but she was just to wild, after a bit I could kinda pet her head but not dare to pick her up ..One night it got cold here in FL I had my utility door open because I was cooking and it was getting warm in the apt…Next thing I know, I here a little meow…In the back of a corner was a baby kitty. I kept looking over and saw the mommy bring another. I just stayed back, she looked up at me with the kitten in her mouth as to say (is this ok) I said to her awwww what a good mommy you are these little guys hadnt even opened their eyes yet.. She ended up bringing 4 babies. I had my own cat Fat Albert and he was so good with her and the babies…I found them all homes ….
Smart cat she knows who to trust and she chose this home which says you’re a really good person.
Thanks for proving her right.

Beautiful story. Beautiful person. Kate you should be so proud of the man you raised.

Such a sweet story all the way around … God bless Kate Collins’ son for having a kind heart to this beautiful kitty mom … You were there when she needed you 🙂 … Her kitties are adorable 🙂
I hope this is a true story… 🙂
Thank you for today’s happy tears by sharing this.
What a great story.
Our lovely Celeste came to us one dark and stormy night, a wet little Lab pup. We shared her love and affection for 14 years. She was a real joy ..
They know who they can trust….
What a Wonderful Msama Kiyyy, Wishing they all get Furever homes soon.
We have a cat colony that we feed on our deck. We had a carrier next to our door with blankets in it. Woke up to find 4 newborns and their feral mom in the crate. We were never able to pet her but she let us handle the kittens. Three of them died at 2 weeks old. We went against nature and brought the last one in. She was very dehydrated and weak, to the point we thought she would die too. Massive amounts of Goat milk, and many sleepless nights later, we have Ivy!! this sweet boy must keep this Mabel cat- they are truly bonded
it took me 6 months, twice a day of feeding, to finally win over my mamma cat. the kittens I could never catch, and so grew up referral. mamma cat is still with us! very long-haired girl. one day I came to feed her, she looked at me then just rubbed all over me and followed me home! it was the first time I even got to touch her! from then on she’s been with me -9 years
that is such a wonderful story!
That is so loving
What a heart warming story!!! I love cats!!

“Did Mabel find a home?”
I sure hope that the momma cat gets a terrific home (one indoors) and her kittens also get wonderful homes. Would be nice if Momma could keep one or two. I have 2 momma cats. One is a nurturing momma; the other no longer wants anything to do with her family. I kept all because I didn’t have the heart to break them up. When the kittens were small, I didn’t see that the one momma wouldn’t be good when her young grew. I did see that she was pretty rough with them. Whereas the other momma was always nurturing. The good momma has three now adult cats. The other momma has two sons — I have to keep them separated, otherwise the fight would be on. The non-nurturing momma is a shock, because (like the cat in this article) she went back and forth taking her kittens to a lady who gave them shelter. The lady then asked me to take them. I’m wondering if it isn’t because her kittens grew to weigh 3 times as much as herself. I don’t know what the boys’ excuse is to want to kill their mother! All of my cats have been fixed and living in luxury! I was never a cat person, but never knew what I was missing!
How kind these people are!!
Thank God for great people!what a lucky cat!
Amazing story of a loving momma cat. This also a great story of the person who cared for this cat at any given moment. Especially in momma cats desperate time of need.
God Bless you
awww thats so sewwt of wt you are doing i all so feed a stray cat i named him homless n we gave him a bed to sleep in out in the garage
There are only five kittens showing with names. Did three of them not make it? Or are they keeping them? Wish I lived down there and was able to take one. But I have a 13 yr.old Senior who still doesn’t get along with our 1 1/2 yr.old previously homeless boy.
Aw, what a sweetie.
Wow you are an angel. Thanks for saving them. God bless this whole family

This story touched me more than any, I think., It’s almost a carbon copy of the way our cat came into our lives, along with her six newborns.
Beautiful momma cat…hope they all survived.
such a lovely story of trust and human/animal communication! Thanks for sharing…hope all have been happily adopted to furever homes!
What a story!!!! Thank you to this wonderful young man for what he did for Mabel and her babies. What a great mama cat!
I had a stray mama cat do this in both a tropical storm and right before Hurricane Like. I was the only one she truly trusted out of all the people that fed her. Good job, guys! I applaud you!
I hope Mabel is okay too!!., after saving her babies going out in the cold rain she should be having a lotta loving too!
A kitty hero and a human hero!
That’s how we got our Mama cat during a snow storm
10 pound moma cat will whip a 100 pound dog over her kittens; or die trying.
Mabel! Fits her perfectly.
My stray cat Lucky brought her 5 kittens to our backyard when they could barely climb the brick wall, but she kept after them until all of them made it over. Took longer for the little tripod to make it. A month later the feral Saphire had her kittens on our porch and the neighbor brought 3 orphan kittens for me to bottle feed. I couldn’t say no I have too many right now. We had 11 kittens total in 2013
What a wonderful story of true love of a Mama and good Samartian.

This is a wonderful anecdote, and I loved reading about this darling little Calico. There are so many heroes in the animal world with so many unknown stories. They do the right thing naturally. Thank you for sharing!
My beloved mama did the same. Mothers know best.
this is so awesome and bless you and your son for caring for this precious mama and her babies.
very smart cat.. i love her..
I love Tabby cats…they are the most loving and caring of the breeds. The only cats that I have ever had were strays besides the Tabbies and those ..the worst acting, were those Siamese and Persians even though I went through the expense of neutering, etc.
That is so amazing.. What an awesome story, strength and trust Mabel is
My daughter and her boyfriend just adopted a little black cat that is recovering from the abuse of some SOB who broke all 4 of her legs. She has some serious trust issues, (for good reasons), but is finally warming up to them poor little thing. Always heartening to hear the happy ending stories 🙂
Amazing and inspiring story!
They tell me that my companion, Lucy, was living on the streets with her kittens shortly before I adopted her. She was terrified of people. I should say all people except me. That’s how I knew she was for me, and I was for her. She is still scared of almost everything, but she is the smartest, most loving cat I have ever had. We both really needed each other. Four years later we still do.
I’ve had my cat seven years and she is still scared of humans
Loving son, He learned it from his mom.
This story is very closely related to our cats story. We just had 4 babies.
What a good mama cat 🙂
bless her furry little heart

Imagine 8 kittens, their mom, and my son’s own rescued cat in a one bedroom apartment! But he was too kind-hearted to shut his door that stormy morning. I’m so proud of him.

What a wonderful story, thank you Jason and Kate!
Animal instinct and intelligence never ceases to amaze me!!!
Beautiful story, you must be so proud. My sister and I started feeding a feral tortoise shell cat a few months ago, she was very shy, skinny and rough looking. She started looking better but wouldn’t come anywhere near us. One day she suddenly turned up on our front porch, just laying there until she had my attention. I followed her around to the side of our house where we have an enclosed side yard the dogs can’t get to and discovered four kittens. We immediately began to feed her better food and to keep an eye on the kittens. As soon as they started climbing out of the yard, way earlier than I expected, my niece and I caught them, we have coyotes and were afraid they would be killed. We fed them, had them neutered, wormed and gave them their shots. We found homes for three of the four and kept one do we now have three dogs and two inside cats. Mother a Kitty is still shy but we trapped her, had her fixed and got her the various shots she needed. She still lives outside but we live in CA so that’s ok and we feed her twice a day. She’s beautiful and I wish I could cuddle her but know that may never happen but her kitten, Squeeky sleeps with me and my older cat every night.
Such a beautiful tale loved it xox
this true story moved me so much, wish i could have one, I live in Australia…
At times animals show more love than us humans.
Looks just like my precious,.Charlie
brought tears to me eyes, it did, cats are amazing

An pawsome story!
My kind of people…..GOD BLESSED YOU BOTH-already with kind souls and empathy! You are lucky indeed….and rich “in the Right Stuff!”!
Nothing braver than a mama cat.
This is a heartwarming story. Please make sure all of the kitties have been neutered or spayed so this won’t happen again.
All my cats are rescues from the outdoors, all had been abandoned kittens, vinnie in dark park parking lot along with his 2 brothers, bubba in a dumpster,mr, hoppie,in the desert brush, miss kittie left on doorstep in box at place of buissness.
this story brought tears to my eyes, what a kind and loving man you are Jason, and Kate you have done a beautiful job if raising a son who cares about these precious creatures!! My mom and I had many years ago rescued a mama cat and her new born kittens and their daddy one hot summer day. The best decision we ever made!!
I am so happy to know this …I had seen this story but not the happy ending. Wonderful ! <3
JAN 1 2015 UPDATE: All kittens and Mama adopted and being loved.. (You can read detail further down thread) <3. <3
Thank goodness that there are Kind people in this world!! God Bless!!!!
Lovely caring man.
Awesome story 😉
This is a wonderful, heartwarming story of a fine young man rescuing a mama cat and her 8 kittens.
Thank you for adopting her. Her kittens look adorable and of course, they would get homes.
Wonderful story kate should be very proud of jason. They both have a great heart and generous spirit. Happiness to mabel, her people and all her babies. Shes a wonderful mother
I take in homeless cats, too. I had a few pregnancies with my former stray. She would burst out of the house after caring for her kittens inside with me and immediately get pregnant again until I could finally catch her and take her to get spayed. When she would go into labor she would put her paw up and touch my arm. She had two litters next to me on the couch! I would get a blanket and let her alone as I sat next to her. Even though she was a stray, she wanted my companionship. It’s been several years and she has come out of her shell and loves to be pet and sits next to me as I am on the computer a lot. They are wonderful creatures and friends when they trust you.
thats so sweet i feed a stray cat n named her homless she stays in the garage n we made a bed for her
Aw great story of a mothers love and a wanderful ending thank u
to bad all moms were not like here
Wonderful story of bravery thank you so much for caring for those babies and that wonderful mommy! She deserves a beautiful home.
Beautiful story. A wonderful son. 3 of mine were strays and 3 from shelters. All are indoor only and are amazing cats
God’s Blessings on you and your son.
If I had been in Jason’s shoes I would have 9 more cats now. lol I’m now providing food, water and shelter for 2 stray cats in my neighborhood. So far I am the only human each of them trust. I have seen others trying to coax them to themselves to be petted but neither cat will go close to them. I pet them and hold them sometimes just for security and comfort to me and the cats. They love the attention and the love. My reward -many head butts and lots of purring.

What a blessing you are for taking her. And what a great mama kitty for knowing she had to do something for her babies.
Bless her and her babies. Glad to hear Pati Bannister that they’ve been adopted. ♡
At my apartment building we have numerous strays. Our former manager tried to prevent residents feeding them but thank goodness we have a new manager who approves it. An organization recently gathered up 10 of them (there was one that could not be captured), spayed and neutered them, and returned them. They clip the ears to show this has been done. They also provided some small houses that the manager okayed as long as they’re not visible, so they’re hidden behind the bushes along the front of the building. I’m so happy this has been done and that for the first time they have shelter from the cold this winter.
I can show you and inexpensive way to provide shelter for them if you would like. I don’t know what the weather is like where you are but in Colorado I always worry about the feral cats I take care of.
Thanx for sharing a great story
My father adopted me and my three. HE SAID, I was like a chicken who hides her nest. This cat hid her nest, probably got flooded out.
There is a cat that I discovered actually belongs across the street who showed up to be fed and might stay weeks on end at my place. Then she would disappear and later show up with 4 week old or so kittens. Did this several times – I’d try to find homes or they just hung at my house to eat and stay awhile. After her last litter of 2 which one died, I kept the small white and black kitten as I think it was a present from her dying father- an extremely affectionate but in horrible shape stray kitty who showed up on day and stayed til he died a short while later. Later caught mom – at that time not super socialized but could be petted a little, took her to one of our fosters at the shelter I work at because she was pregnant. We were going to let her have kittens and then work on getting everyone adopted. Well something happened at the foster, suddenly she wasn’t pregnant any longer and was more wild. My medical director asked if I would take her back after being fixed to be a feral in her home turf. I said sure. She suddenly was more friendlier, liked to be petted, is well fed. I really couldn’t take her in because she still goes back and forth to her home across the street. But she is fixed so no more kittens esp with the coyotes in area and jerk neighbors who speed down their hill not caring who is in the way. She is plump and adorable. I still leave food out for her so she has crunchies and water whenever she visits and gets spoiled with a can of wet food now and then if I see her here.
Wonderful story. Renews my faith in humanity. Thank God there are still good, kind hearted people in this world.
Love this story!
Once you build your trust with a cat, that’s it! She is such a good kitty mommy to brave that storm to bring each one to safety. So happy everyone is doing well and have found homes! You are wonderful people to take on that many kitties and help them out!
Thank you for being so kind this mom and her kittens
Animal Mothers are the best! ♥
This is a beautiful story.
I found a “Momma Cat” laying in the ditch with her “Littles”, trying in vain to keep them warm & dry. We took her in (this “Stray” & “her Litter”). She became part of the family & all of her “babies” were saved & found wonderful homes, then She “asked” to be returned to the Outdoors & we granted her wish (after she healed from her spaying). She continued to come to our door, to greet & eat, & she continued this until we moved & the neighbors took over. She “passed” some years later. We called her “Sunshine Suzy” & she left her “pawprint” on the hearts of those who knew her for a lifetime.
It takes a very kind wonderful person to take such loving care of a “stray cat & kittens” – you have “pawprints on your heart” & animals know this – Thank you for saving this wonderful Mother & her family – Blessings to you & your new “family”. I hope that it will be a long & lasting relationship that you can tell your Grandchildren & they tell their generations that follow. May God Bless You & Yours.
He reminds me a little of my cat I lost almost 2 years ago
Same thing happened to me , then I had Mama cat fixed .
Good mama beautiful babies. You are a blessing for saving and helping these babies and mama you have Angels surrounding you
We need more people in the world like this woman and her son. Thank you for having wonderful hearts..
God bless those who love animals enough to do something like this. And for Mabel…she deserves “mother of the year”…
What a wonderful story…she knew where to go for help and she must have been exhausted at the end of it….what a mommy!

This is such a sweet heartwarming story. God bless you for caring enough to be her hero and love her kittens.
Every cat I’ve owned except for 1 was a stray. 🙂
OMG! They are amazing!
Wonderful person and great Mabel
it must fill the soul with quite a feeling to know you are the only person that holds the trust of a fear filled animal in its moment of greatest need to travel so far to seek you out.. but at the same time realize you are the only person in the entire world that the animal has ever experienced enough care from to give that animal opportunity to know and develop trust for
Read this story before had to read it again to bad some ppl can’t love their kids like she loved her babies
What a great mama cat
Where is this cat!? Why is ours retarded?
The same thing happened to us. Pamela James is right. Cats are amazing mamas.

bless hew loving heart. some people should care so much.
Just love how animals communicate without ever saying a word. Thank you Kate and your son for taking in Mabel and her kittens. So glad to hear that homes were found for all of them.
God bless you Jason for saving Mabel and here kittens and your mother did a wonderful job raising an amazing man. <3
Thank you for taking such good care of Mabel and her kittens. I wish you many happy years together.
Bless You Jason. I wish you could have kept the whole family together. That is quite extraordinary that all 8 kittens were born and survived out in the harsh elements, and that Mabel could produce enough milk to feed them, when she herself was probably not eating or being fed. My Cat had her kittens under my bed in an Apt. she had 5, but only 2 survived, and the other 3 were stillborn, too underdeveloped I guess. If you were not a Cat Person before, I hope you are now, because Cats and Kittens truly are a blessing and will give you unconditional love. You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to go outside to walk a Cat, or hear a Cat’s loud Barking, etc. Dogs are great too, but I’m a Cat Person, and am down to 6 from 10, that I had taken in over the past 10 years.
Please post a picture of Mabel with the three kittens you kept. You and she are my Heroes.
Love this story. I am crying, and posted a long comment on Jason’s article.

Terryann Santiago. Lisa Peralta
I had a similar experience, except it was a stray male that I fed, and one day he brings over a semi grown female kitten, that we brought in until she was fixed, then a few weeks later he brought another female all white younger kitten….did the same with her, then again, except this time he brought a very young orange male kitten to our porch, probably in his mouth….they know….
You are truely wonderful and she is one lucky cat to have you!
Momma cat spends 4 hours in storm for her babies while a woman abandons her newborn son, humans suck

Beautiful story with a happy ending!! Thank goodness Mable found your son! Cat’s are very smart, and know who to trust!! She adopted YOU!! thanks for letting her…now her and her babies are finally home!
Back in spring 2000, my brother and I would always play with and set food out for this black and white cow spot stray we called Baby. Never knew she was pregnant since she was just skin and bone when we found her. Even with the food wed leave out, she never seemed to gain much weight, and wed overfill the bowl three times a day for her to make sure she had something even if our shi tzu had the outdoor munchies. One day, I was standing right outside my garage door letting Max out when Baby came trotting up to me with something in her mouth. I thought it was another shrew she killed as a “gift”! But when she dropped it at my feet, she looked at me and gave me this helpless meow. I looked down and there was this little 3 day old kitten, hadnt even opened her eyes yet. About an hour later, there were a total of 3 kittens and Baby in my garage snuggling. We built them a little house/playpen area over by the workbench out of refigerator boxes and filled it with a litter box, food, water, blankets, pollows and as many toys as we could find. Baby and her son and a daughter, Tigger and Stephanie Jr (my fathers idea. Stephanie was actually a boy but he would rather be an evil child like me and bite Babys tail mercilessly instead ofnurse like his sisters!) were adopted out to two very nice families. To this day, I still have the runt of the litter. Fat old Rocky. Shell be 15 this summer. Beautiful tortoise shell kitty, but in her age, has grown herself a pretty magnificent white moustache. 🙂 love my kitty!
Please spay and neuter!!! 🙂
God bless your dons loving heart.
Great people to do this for Mabel and her babies. He is a REAL MAN!!!

Please find an organization or start one your self to help these neighborhood kitties.its called Trap Neuter Return TNR for short. The kitties are trapped fixed vaccinated and returned to their colony.
And just like this wonderful guy did the kittens and mom are given safe haven – the kittens socialized and adopted (fixed of course as fixing can be done at 10 weeks) and mom is then fixed and returned or as is the case many times they were someones pet who was dumped and is friendly and can be adopted herself.
Please get involved- the need for protection of these sweet animals has never been greater.

Nothing like a mama’s love
There are thirteen cats who reside with my room mates and I. Each have their own story of how they were found or how they found us and came to call our home their own but each is loved and well cared for and I wouldn’t trade any one of them for all the gold in ft. Knox regardless of the sneezing stuffy head the breathing troubles the meds I have to take and all the other issues. You see I’m allergic and my Doctor wants me to move out of the house into a place where there are no cats but I would be even more miserable without all my little room mates.
Mother cat is so brave and thank you for sharing this story. Wonderful person who took the mother cat and 8 kittens.
Thank God for people like you and I’m so happy to such a happy ending, this story just melted my heart !

Only in animals, so precious
This is a wonderful story. I am so glad they didn’t turn them over to the shelter because I believe the Indianapolis animal shelter is a kill shelter. I am from Greencastle, IN, and when one of my cats went missing I prayed she didn’t end up there. God bless Kate and Jason for taking care of the mama cat and finding good homes for her babies. 🙂
